Bremen ist keine wohlhabende Stadt – das spüren vor allem Kinder. Der Anteil von armutsgefährdeten Kindern und Jugendlichen ist in drei Stadtteilen groß.

Demokratie und Sozialstaat gehören zusammen. Die Bürger in einer Demokratie brauchen Ausbildung und Auskommen, sie brauchen eine leidlich gesicherte Existenz. Das Leben wird weiterhin ungerecht beginnen und es wird ungerecht enden. Dass es dazwischen einigermaßen gerecht zugeht – dafür gibt es den Sozialstaat.“
