Angesichts des demografischen Wandels sollte die Förderung älterer Arbeitsloser eigentlich an Bedeutung gewinnen. In der Praxis ist davon jedoch nichts zu spüren.

Demokratie und Sozialstaat gehören zusammen. Die Bürger in einer Demokratie brauchen Ausbildung und Auskommen, sie brauchen eine leidlich gesicherte Existenz. Das Leben wird weiterhin ungerecht beginnen und es wird ungerecht enden. Dass es dazwischen einigermaßen gerecht zugeht – dafür gibt es den Sozialstaat.“
