In Deutschland arbeiten knapp zehn Millionen Menschen für weniger als zwölf Euro pro Stunde. Im Osten ist ihr Anteil laut Statistischem Bundesamt höher als im Westen.

Demokratie und Sozialstaat gehören zusammen. Die Bürger in einer Demokratie brauchen Ausbildung und Auskommen, sie brauchen eine leidlich gesicherte Existenz. Das Leben wird weiterhin ungerecht beginnen und es wird ungerecht enden. Dass es dazwischen einigermaßen gerecht zugeht – dafür gibt es den Sozialstaat.“
