Es ist der schlimmste Absturz der Geschichte auf dem amerikanischen Arbeitsmarkt. Viele Ökonomen haben den Glauben an eine schnelle Erholung verloren. Nur der Präsident malt weiter schön.

Demokratie und Sozialstaat gehören zusammen. Die Bürger in einer Demokratie brauchen Ausbildung und Auskommen, sie brauchen eine leidlich gesicherte Existenz. Das Leben wird weiterhin ungerecht beginnen und es wird ungerecht enden. Dass es dazwischen einigermaßen gerecht zugeht – dafür gibt es den Sozialstaat.“
