DGB-Vorsitzender Rainer Hoffmann fordert sozialen Ausgleich für eine CO2-Steuer. Besorgt äußert er sich über Erfolge rechtspopulistischer Kräfte – „ein Risiko für die Zukunft der Demokratie“.

Demokratie und Sozialstaat gehören zusammen. Die Bürger in einer Demokratie brauchen Ausbildung und Auskommen, sie brauchen eine leidlich gesicherte Existenz. Das Leben wird weiterhin ungerecht beginnen und es wird ungerecht enden. Dass es dazwischen einigermaßen gerecht zugeht – dafür gibt es den Sozialstaat.“
