Chancengleichheit und sozialer Aufstieg in den OECD-Ländern

nwieweit wird wirtschaftliche Ungleichheit von Startbedingungen beeinflusst, die von den Menschen nicht kontrollierten werden können? Um diese und andere Fragen ging es bei einer gemeinsamen Veranstaltung des OECD Berlin Centre und des IAB.

Das Schicksal teilt ungerecht aus; und es gleicht die Ungerechtigkeiten nicht immer aus. Hier hat der Sozialstaat seine Aufgabe. Er sorgt dafür, dass der Mensch reale, nicht nur formale Chancen hat. …

Demokratie und Sozialstaat gehören zusammen. Die Bürger in einer Demokratie brauchen Ausbildung und Auskommen, sie brauchen eine leidlich gesicherte Existenz. Das Leben wird weiterhin ungerecht beginnen und es wird ungerecht enden. Dass es dazwischen einigermaßen gerecht zugeht – dafür gibt es den Sozialstaat.“
