Der mittlere Bruttojahresverdienst, gemessen am Median, lag 2024 in Deutschland einschließlich Sonderzahlungen bei 52 159 Euro. Die 10 % am unteren Ende der Verteilung erhielten 32 526 Euro brutto oder weniger.

Demokratie und Sozialstaat gehören zusammen. Die Bürger in einer Demokratie brauchen Ausbildung und Auskommen, sie brauchen eine leidlich gesicherte Existenz. Das Leben wird weiterhin ungerecht beginnen und es wird ungerecht enden. Dass es dazwischen einigermaßen gerecht zugeht – dafür gibt es den Sozialstaat.“
