„Die Sanktionen werden durchaus nennenswert verschärft“

Die Bundesregierung fordert von Bürgergeldempfängern wieder mehr Einsatz und droht mit Sanktionen. Arbeitsmarktökonom Holger Schäfer vom Institut der deutschen Wirtschaft (IW) sieht darin eine überfällige Korrektur.

Demokratie und Sozialstaat gehören zusammen. Die Bürger in einer Demokratie brauchen Ausbildung und Auskommen, sie brauchen eine leidlich gesicherte Existenz. Das Leben wird weiterhin ungerecht beginnen und es wird ungerecht enden. Dass es dazwischen einigermaßen gerecht zugeht – dafür gibt es den Sozialstaat.“
