Auch nach der Umbenennung von Hartz IV in »Bürgergeld« soll es möglich bleiben, die Bezüge von Erwerbslosen unter das Existenzminimum zu kürzen – obwohl eine neue Studie keinerlei Hinweise auf eine positive Wirkung von Sanktionen fand.

Das Leben wird weiterhin ungerecht beginnen und es wird ungerecht enden. Dass es dazwischen einigermaßen gerecht zugeht – dafür gibt es den Sozialstaat.“
