Das erhöhte Arbeitslosengeld bewahrte viele US-Beschäftigte in der Krise vor der Armut. Hält der Zuschlag sie nun davon ab, neue Jobs anzunehmen? Oder sind es die Löhne?

Demokratie und Sozialstaat gehören zusammen. Die Bürger in einer Demokratie brauchen Ausbildung und Auskommen, sie brauchen eine leidlich gesicherte Existenz. Das Leben wird weiterhin ungerecht beginnen und es wird ungerecht enden. Dass es dazwischen einigermaßen gerecht zugeht – dafür gibt es den Sozialstaat.“
