Bürgergeld-Bezieher werden kein angenehmes Leben haben

Der Duisburger Soziologe Bäcker widerspricht der Kritik aus Kreisen der Union und der Wirtschaft am geplanten Bürgergeld. Die Sozialleistung sei nicht zu hoch. Armutsforscher Butterwegge wirft der Union vor, den „Sozialneid nach unten“ zu schüren.

Demokratie und Sozialstaat gehören zusammen. Die Bürger in einer Demokratie brauchen Ausbildung und Auskommen, sie brauchen eine leidlich gesicherte Existenz. Das Leben wird weiterhin ungerecht beginnen und es wird ungerecht enden. Dass es dazwischen einigermaßen gerecht zugeht – dafür gibt es den Sozialstaat.“
